How to make Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Suckers

Chocolate covered marshmallow suckers are very simple and quick to make. If you are looking for a good project for your kids to participate in, this one works great! There is no need to use a stove and they are so simple. Use your imagination and create you own designs and colors. I typically use Wilton Melts (you can buy them at most craft stores) for my chocolate, but use whatever you'd like. Wilton melts come in white chocolate, dark coco and regular coco. The white chocolate comes in different colors or you can make your own colors.

1. Gather your materials, you will need:

  • Large Marshmallows
  • Sucker Sticks
  • Food Coloring (oil based)
  • Sprinkles
  • Chocolate (Wilton Melts work great)

2. Melt your chocolate. You can use a microwave or mini crock pot. Mini crock pots work great, just make sure the crock pot is set on low and you stir the chocolate frequently. If you decide to use the microwave, heat your chocolate for 30 seconds and then stir. Then repeat until all your chocolate in fully melted. Be careful not to overheat your chocolate; if it gets too hot it will become thick and unusable.

3. If you are using white chocolate and want to create different colors for your marshmallow suckers, add a little bit of food coloring to your chocolate (using an oil based food coloring). A water based food coloring will make your chocolate lumpy and unusable.

4. Stick your sucker sticks into your marshmallows.

5. Dip your marshmallow suckers into your chocolate and fully cover your marshmallows with chocolate. After you dip each of your marshmallow suckers, sprinkle on any sprinkles that you may want to add. Now stick them in a heavy glass, with the chocolate covered marshmallows facing up. This way the chocolate can set, without messing anything up.

6. Refrigerate your chocolate covered marshmallows for 10 minutes.

7. Now, if you'd like you could add a different color or type of chocolate, if desired. There are so many different ways to help decorate your marshmallows, use your imagination. White chocolate drizzled over a regular chocolate sucker would taste great! Now refrigerate for 10 more minutes.

8. You are almost done. Stick each of your chocolate covered marshmallow suckers into a bag and tie off with ribbon. You can buy small bags that are made for this type of project at most craft stores.

Have Fun!
